Bert Kreischer whisked college grads Matt and Chris away to see Rome, Italy, Trip Flip style.
This week on the Travel Channel?s Trip Flip, host and travel expert Bert Kreischer took two unsuspecting young targets to REAL Rome, Italy?and that meant gladiator fighting.
?I have three days of adventure, luxury, fine dining, great accommodations planned. Are you the kind of guys who can pull the trigger right now and leave for three days?? Kreischer asked Matt and Chris, friends from Fayetteville, Arkansas.
?Do we have to sell an organ?? Chris asked tentatively.
?Nooooooo,? Kreischer said. ?You don?t have to do anything. All you have to do is trust me. ? Seize the day,? he told the 22-year-old-just-out-of-college young men.
And, when Matt and Chris agreed, they found themselves flying off to Rome, Italy, in short order.
No trip to Italy would be complete without learning to gladiator fight?well, no Trip Flip trip, anyway. The guys learned the five main offensive moves for gladiator fighting, and attempted to master the opposite of the moves for defense. Were they successful? Well, they did their best, and they were not required to fight to the death. So, it was all a good time, even if they did not come out on top of the gladiator world.
And, of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without making true Italian pizza. The keys? Use the best local ingredients and cook the pie in the hottest oven available. In fact, the cheese pizza was ready to eat after only two minutes in the oven. And, how to eat? Fold the entire pie in half and start chomping.
Can?t go wrong with that.
Mastering the Vespa
On Day Two, Matt and Chris got to check out one of Rome?s most popular forms of transportation: the Vespa. The scooters are, in fact, one of Italy?s best exports. Riding the sporty scooters, Matt, Chris, Bert, and their guide, Annie, doubled up?two to a scooter?and saw all of the most popular sites Rome has to offer: the Coliseum; the Baths of Caracalla; the building where Mussolini announced Italy?s entry into WWII; all of this and only one accident, with Bert bumping the back of Annie?s Vespa.
No trip to Italy would be done properly without seeing the Sistine Chapel, of course, and they did, but viewing the bones of the Cappuchin Crypt was particularly startling for the vacationers. ?He takes us to a room full of friar bones,? Matt said. ?There?s no telling where we?re going next.?
Indeed.
On Day Three, the trip was winding up, but not winding down, as Bert took the two guys caving. Guiding the amateurs through the caves and canyons, experts Sylvia and Gianluigi showed Matt and Chris parts of Rome that they had no idea even existed. Neither had ever rappelled before, but both found the experience thrilling.
Where will Trip Flip be taking two unsuspecting vacationers next week?
