Why You Need To Build Multiple Streams of Income For Yourself ...

Word Count: 664 Date:

Everyday, hundreds of people all over the world join up with network marketing opportunities online, hoping to make riches, but often the opportunity that they join up with is closed down within a few short months. This is one of the main reasons that online entrepreneurs need to focus on building sustainable and long term residual incomes for themselves.

Problem is most internet marketers join every opportunity that comes their way, and then never actually make anything much in any of them. The reason is that they don't treat one opportunity like a business and work on that particular opportunity until they are actually in profit. Instead they try for a little while with one and then join up with the next best thing that comes around.

The secret to success is working your part time job just as hard as you would your full time job for at least six months or until you are in profit. Only after you have done this will you see whether or not the business will work out for you or not.

The other problem that many face is that they do all the above and then the company closes their doors just when you do start earning yourself a nice little income. Overnight, poof, their earnings have gone.

Okay, we all know that internet marketing is hard work and always will be. Only once you have in disposable income in your hands, can you make your money work for you and afford yourself more time to live your life. It will be hard work until then, building up your business and learning all there is about driving traffic to your program.

Here are some things to look out for before joining up with any MLM or Internet Marketing Business and what you can do to sustain your income:

1. When you find something that appeals to you, Google it and see what others have to say.

2. Try not to lay out any money unnecessarily. If possible, make some money first, then reinvest it into your business.

3. If there is a monthly fee involved, which there normally is in any good business, make sure that you will be able to afford the first three months at least, until you have something coming in.

4. Try to join up with opportunities that are either more than two years old, or that help you to build multiple streams of income in more than one different place. In that way if one of the streams collapses, then at least you will have another to sustain you.

5. Build up a good relationship with all the people that you bring into the business. Give your referrals all the help and support that they need, because if they are successful, then in turn your will also be successful.

6. Join up with an online opportunity that you only have to promote one URL and earn multiple streams of income. In this way you can focus your time more productively on promoting one thing instead of trying to promote many different things and thus dilute your advertising power.

7. Make sure that you invest money in a product or service, as there are many pyramid schemes to invest in with nothing to show for it, and these are normally the types of sites that don't last very long.

Network marketing is the wave of the future, as this is one of the only ways that you can build yourself a great residual income. A residual income is money that you are earning without having to put in hours of work each day, the way you would at a regular job. When you get to this stage, you will be able to enjoy your life more and not have to tie yourself to your desk for eight hours a day.

Storyteller to benefit Martial Arts Family Fitness? annual Kick-a-Thon.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. ? Martial Arts Family Fitness (MAFF), a family-owned and operated school dedicated to improving lives through martial arts, announced today that the nonprofit Storyteller Children?s Center will benefit from a donation of $16,852.07 raised through the school?s annual Kick-a-Thon fundraiser. Storyteller provides quality, tuition-free early childhood education for homeless and at-risk children, as well as comprehensive family support services. MAFF will present a check to Storyteller at a belt test and promotion ceremony on Thursday, September 27 at 6:00 PM. The event will take place at the MAFF?s facility at 122 E. Gutierrez?Street.

?We are very pleased with the efforts of our school?s community in helping Storyteller Children?s Center,? said Grandmaster Dave Wheaton, founder and owner of Martial Arts Family Fitness. ?This very successful fundraiser was driven by our students. I cannot be more proud of this amazing?feat.?

?Once again, our students worked tirelessly to make a positive impact in our community,? added Master Melodee Meyer, co-owner of MAFF. ?We set a goal of $15,000, and we surpassed it. Over the past few years have raised money over $100,000 for various nonprofit groups, and now we can add Storyteller to our great?list.?

Students and staff of Martial Arts Family Fitness had the opportunity to kick for three minutes and raise money through either ?per-kick? or ?flat? pledges. As a group, the martial artists delivered over 9,200 kicks in the three minutes of the Kick-A-Thon. Morgan Love, an eleven year old martial artist, led the group with 350 kicks. The total raised includes donations made through a silent?auction.

?It is gratifying to see our students value the importance of helping others and giving back to their community,? added Grandmaster Wheaton. ?Our students are leaders, and we work to bring this out in them. Before every class we recite the ?Student?s Creed?, which contains a statement that says: ?I care for myself so that I can help care for others?, and the Kick-a-Thon exemplifies this?statement.?

Investors prepare for Obama victory, more gridlock

By MATTHEW CRAFT, Associated Press

NEW YORK --?As President Barack Obama widened his lead over Mitt Romney in polls this month, traders at hedge funds and investment firms began shooting e-mails to clients with a similar theme: It's time to start preparing for an Obama victory.?

What many in the market worry about isn't that high earners may pay more in taxes if Obama wins. It's gridlock in Washington come January, when more than $600 billion in spending cuts and tax hikes could kick in just as the country smacks into its borrowing limit again.?

In a second term, Obama would likely be pitted against a Republican-controlled House of Representatives. Investors say that's likely to set up a budget battle similar to August of last year, which ended with the country losing its top credit rating and panicked investors fleeing the stock market.

"If you have any kind of gridlock, you run the risk of inaction," says Tom Simons, a market economist at the investment bank Jefferies. "This is a situation where inaction is the worst outcome."

The next fight could get just as messy, but most on Wall Street think Congress and Obama would eventually manage to postpone some of the $600-billion-plus "fiscal cliff" and avoid tipping the economy into a recession.

The Congressional Budget Office recently laid out the grim consequences of dropping off the fiscal cliff. The economy would shrink at an annual rate of nearly 3 percent in the first half of next year and push unemployment up to 9.1 percent by the fall. Recent surveys of businesses suggest the threat is already weighing on the minds of executives when they're making hiring and spending plans.

For the world's biggest money managers, the fiscal cliff now ranks as the greatest hazard to the global economy, according to Bank of America's most recent fund manager survey. It topped the European debt crisis, a collapse in Chinese real estate and even a war between Israel and Iran.

The danger looms so large to most investors that they believe Washington will find a way to escape it.

"Ultimately, I think a deal gets done, but it's just a question of how long it takes to get there," says Jeff Kleintop, chief market strategist at LPL Financial. "By no means is it going to be an easy process. Gridlock means there's a greater chance that this drags on into next year."

Analysts at investment firms have kept a close eye on polling numbers and especially on the prediction market Intrade. National polls show voters leaning toward Obama. On Intrade, the odds have swung strongly in Obama's direction, jumping to a 76 percent chance of re-election, up from 51 percent at the start of September.

Democrats are far less likely to take the House from Republicans, who hold a 50-seat majority. Intrade markets put the chance that Republicans will control the House at 74 percent.

If these forecasts prove right, the balance of power in Washington would remain the same. Democrats keep the White House and a slim majority in the Senate, and Republicans keep the House.

What troubles investors is that the same cast of characters who fought over raising the debt ceiling last year could be taking up the same task again while debating how best to maneuver around the fiscal cliff.

Expect to see a replay of the debt-ceiling fight, says Ian Lyngen, a senior government bond strategist at CRT Capital. Except that this time the stakes are even higher.

"I'm sure it's going to go just like it did last time ? very messy," Lyngen says. "It will probably be a repeat of what we saw in the summer of 2011."

In one dizzying stretch that August, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 2,000 points in three weeks.

The widespread belief on Wall Street is that Congress and Obama will start negotiations over raising the debt limit and pushing back the fiscal cliff when they return in late November ? the so-called lame-duck session, because newly elected members of Congress will not have taken their seats.

Twists in the talks will likely rattle markets as the new year approaches.

"Ugly negotiations in the lame-duck session could really throw the market for a loop," says Kleintop. "It could be a painful process for investors."

In a report out this week, analysts at Goldman Sachs tried to estimate just how painful the process will be. Goldman expects the stock market will start sinking after the elections as people realize the fiscal cliff "will not be solved in a smooth fashion."

That's the reason Goldman forecasts that one broad measure of the stock market, the Standard & Poor's 500 index, will end this year at 1,250 ? a 13 percent drop from where it closed Thursday.

But all of that mayhem sounds better than the alternative: another recession caused by letting the $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts through. It's also why many take solace in the idea that, whatever their political party, nobody wants the economy to shrink.

Dan Greenhaus, chief global strategist at the brokerage BTIG, wonders if that's placing too much faith in Washington. "Republicans aren't losing the House," Greenhaus said. "So as the odds of Obama winning reelection go up, what you have to ask is: How are these two parties going to find middle ground in just a few months? I have no idea."

Below, James Poterba, National Bureau of Economic Research president, explains to CNBC how current fiscal policy could lead the nation into a recession if the economy falls off the fiscal cliff.

Crickets causing a stink in Central Texas city

WACO, Texas (AP) ? Several businesses in the Central Texas town of Waco (WAY'-koh) are dealing with a smelly problem that won't go away: decaying cricket carcasses.

A bank, a drugstore and other businesses have been inundated with the odorous onslaught of dead crickets that have been trapped inside walls and have collected on sidewalks.

Jani Rodriguez, the branch manager at Synergy Bank, tells the Waco Tribune-Herald (http://bit.ly/QcSOLs) that scented products have been unable to get rid of the smell. Using air-scrubbing machines hasn't worked either.

Fred Huffman, an entomologist who runs a local pest control business, says the cricket problem has been worse this year because mild winter conditions resulted in the insects appearing earlier than normal.

Health officials say the crickets don't pose any direct health risks.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Pet owners are using social media to post funny pictures of their dogs confessing their mistakes. It's called "dog shaming" and it's a viral trend that's making some people howl.

Dirty dogs are coming clean online, on sites like dog-shaming.com. While owners posting the?pictures of their pups may get laughs,?the dogs aren't really ashamed.

"Not one bit," said Sarah Babcock of the Richmond SPCA.?"I suspect there's an awful lot of dog treats doled out trying to get them to hold the sings for the photographers."

Babcock believes the trend is cute and harmless, but also says instead of just shaming, you can also teach your dogs to correct their behavior.

"I think, 'Wow! So many of these animals could be helped if the people really knew where to go for resources and could get the help they need," she said.

The Richmond?SPCA points out that it has a behavior help line and classes available, in case you want to do more than just shame your pet next time it makes a mess on the kitchen floor.

Estate Planning For Sdn Bhd Shareholders ? SharesInv.com

By Lee Khee Chuan

Wisdom doesn?t automatically come with old age. Nothing does ? except wrinkles. It?s true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.

-Abigail Van Buren

Tom and Harry (not their real names) own a successful chain of retail shops, as equal shareholders of a Sendirian Berhad (Sdn. Bhd.) company in a city of 600,000 residents.

They recently rejected an offer to sell their company for RM2,000,000 believing that the business was worth much more. Besides, they wanted to expand their business. Among the many keys to their success is their ability to work long hours with each other and to complement each other?s strengths.

Their estate planner did ask what would happen if either of them were not around or became disabled and could not contribute to the business.

Tom, a widower, was especially threatened by the thought. Harry, who cares for his semi-invalid mother, recognised the threat of disability. They asked what they should do. The adviser recommended a funded business continuation agreement. This is an arrangement that provides for the transfer of the share ownership to a party who will continue to operate the business. They thought about it briefly, but delayed acting on the idea when sales activity exploded in anticipation of the year-end season. Tom died of a heart attack just before the holidays ended.

Tom had a simple will drawn up after his wife?s death. Unfortunately, it did not expressively address his business shareholding. He left all his assets in a testamentary trust for his minor children. His brother serving as an executor and trustee is concerned because of the lack of cash in the trust.

In the last few years, Tom had been buying up land from the handsome income earned from his business as he always told his friends land is the best investment. Beside his shareholdings in the Sdn Bhd, he also owns a detached house, but not much in the way of bank savings, because he always thought that by keeping too much cash in the bank, the money is not working hard enough for him.

To raise cash for Tom?s testamentary trust, the trustee planned to liquidate the Sdn Bhd, believing the sale of the shares to be a quicker and easier approach than trying to sell or continue the business. Harry is distraught because he prefers to continue the profitable business. Clearly the two shareholders, the trustee (holding on trust for Tom?s minor children) and Harry, have conflicting objectives.

What could Tom and Harry have done to prevent this unfortunate entanglement?

SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS
1. Realistically assess the implications of your withdrawal from the business, if you are the primary, or only, share?holder, do you have the quality of management in place to enable you to leave the Sdn Bhd without having to sell your shareholdings?

It is just simplistic thinking to assume that the potential for the unlimited life of the Sdn Bhd will solve all business continuation problems.

Business structure alone will not guarantee suc?cess. You must create the environment that will give the new owners the optimal chance to succeed, espe?cially if your future income depends on it.

2. Hire and train successor-owners long before your planned departure. If your business is not the kind that can be easily sold for cash in the open market (and most can?t), create your own market by setting up the key people in-house to be the purchasers. Don?t assume you can bring in someone talented to take your place a few months before you depart. It takes time to find, recruit, and develop successor-managers who can become successor-owners.

3. Enter into a buy-sell arrangement. A written agreement is critical. By contracting with the ultimate purchaser, you create a guaranteed mar?ket for your business in the event of your death or dis?ability.

You also improve the likelihood of a market for your share when you voluntarily retire. An agreement can avoid the problem of surviving shareholders end?ing up in business with a surviving spouse or the chil?dren?s trustee.

To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge.

Russia's Medvedev plays 'good cop' on Pussy Riot

Russia's Dmitri?Medvedev called for the release of three Pussy Riot members sentenced to two years in prison. Is he trying to distance himself from the decreasingly popular president?

By Fred Weir,?Correspondent / September 13, 2012

Dmitri Medvedev, Russia's prime minister and former president, has departed from the official script ? as he sometimes dramatically does ? to call for the release of three Pussy Riot women who were sentenced last month to two years in a penal colony for committing sacrilege in Moscow's premier Orthodox cathedral.

The women have been in prison since March, and their appeal hearing is set to begin in two weeks. Mr. Medvedev called for the women to be given suspended sentences.

"Imprisonment is a very severe, even frightening responsibility," Medvedev told a meeting of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party, of which he is nominal leader.

"This well-known group of girls have been in prison quite a long time already, and that is a very serious punishment for everything they did, regardless of the sentence?. Prolonging their prison confinement seems unproductive in this case," he added.

Medvedev's comments came just a few days after President Vladimir Putin compared Pussy Riot performances with "witches' sabbaths" and mused over how obscene their name sounds in English in an interview with the Kremlin-run RT network. Otherwise, Mr. Putin insisted he had nothing to do with the case.

On Tuesday Russian state TV aired a "documentary" film entitled "Provocateurs. Part 2" which claimed the brief "punk prayer" performed by Pussy Riot in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior last February was part of an international conspiracy financed by renegade Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who currently lives in London.

Some experts say Medvedev, who has not shone in his new role as prime minister, may be trying to refurbish his liberal credentials amid Russia's fast polarizing political landscape in hopes that he may have a political future if Putin should be forced to leave the Kremlin early.

"Medvedev can't change anything for Pussy Riot, but he's taking care to position himself as a liberal," says Alexei Mukhin, director of the independent Center for Political Information in Moscow.

"After all, he's a former president, head of the United Russia party, and if Putin were to go away he could step up. He's taking care with his biography, to show that he can take a stand."

New clues about ancient water cycles shed light on US deserts

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? The deserts of Utah and Nevada have not always been dry. Between 14,000 and 20,000 years ago, when large ice caps covered Canada during the last glacial cooling, valleys throughout the desert southwest filled with water to become large lakes, scientists have long surmised. At their maximum size, the desert lakes covered about a quarter of both Nevada and Utah. Now a team led by a Texas A&M University researcher has found a new water cycle connection between the U.S. southwest and the tropics, and understanding the processes that have brought precipitation to the western U.S. will help scientists better understand how the water cycle might be perturbed in the future.

Mitch Lyle, professor of oceanography, led the study with colleagues from Columbia University, University of California-Santa Cruz, Stanford University, Hokkaido University of Japan, Brown University and the U.S. Geological Survey. Their work, funded by the National Science Foundation, is published in the current issue of Science magazine.

The dry shorelines of these glacial lakes were first discovered by 19th century geologists when the west was first explored, Lyle explains, adding that the source of the additional water has been a mystery. By assembling data from ocean sediments and from dry western valleys collected over the last 30 years, Lyle and the team found a new water cycle connection between the southwest U.S. and the tropics.

"Large ice caps profoundly altered where storms went during glacial periods. Before this study, it was assumed that Pacific winter storms that now track into Washington and Canada were pushed south into central and southern California," Lyle notes.

"However, by comparing timing between wet intervals on the coast, where these storms would first strike, with growth of the inland lakes, we found that they didn't match."

The team was able to time wet periods along the California coast from pollen buried in marine sediments from cores archived by scientists at the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program at Texas A&M. They evaluated lake level studies from southeast Oregon, Nevada, Utah, eastern California, New Mexico, and west Texas to find when lakes filled in different parts of the west.

"Many teams of scientists have been working on this problem since the 1950s, when radiocarbon dating first allowed ages to be put on old shorelines," Lyle adds. "The data we synthesized covers a wide latitude so that we could determine how the glacial wet intervals operated."

Only southern California coastal wet intervals matched with the progression of high lakes inland, pointing to the development of a tropical connection, where storms cycled into the region from the tropical Pacific, west of southern Mexico.

"We think that the extra precipitation may have come in summer, enhancing the now weak summer monsoon in the desert southwest. But we need more information about what season the storms arrived to strengthen this speculation," Lyle says.

Not only is the development of the glacial lakes important from a paleoclimate perspective, but it is likely that the lakes were important to the migration of people into North America, Lyle believes. Many of the archaeological sites where early Indians settled when they first came into the U.S. are rock shelters at the edges of these ancient lakes. The lakes were a major source of fish, and a gathering place for deer and wildfowl at that time.

"What we need to do now is look at all of this on a finer scale," Lyle points out. "We need to understand better the processes that directed the storms thousands of years ago, and to predict better what changes might occur in the future."

Content Curation: Building Your Brand and Team | Business 2 ...

Content is fundamental to the social Web. Companies must maintain a consistent presence on the social Web or they stand the risk of losing their audience?s attention. Curation allows businesses to continually update their presence without relying solely on their own original content. With more and more content accessible each day, you do not need to create all original content.? Approximately 50% of your content should be interesting, relevant content that you have curated from credible sources.

Why Curation Matters

Repurposed content is the currency of the social web. Approximately 25% of tweets contain links to outside content, but 56% of retweets contain links. Social media dwellers in general, and Twitter users in particular, love to be the one to share news and pass on links to great content they?ve discovered. Twitter streams that are consistently out front with hot news and relevant links build large followings. It?s clear that frequency is crucial to success in social media.

However, more than 90% of retweets happen within the first hour after the original tweet was posted. Blink, and the Twitterverse is on to the next thing. You have to be a consistent presence or attention drifts elsewhere. Maintaining that presence with a constant flow of new, relevant, high-interest content is challenging, to say the least. When you rely only on self-created content, your social media output quickly becomes unsustainable in terms of time, human resources, and inspiration. Content curation is a way to lighten that load. Curation allows you to continually update your web presence without relying solely on your own output.

With that consistent, high-quality content flow comes higher visibility for your brand, as well as increased authority with customers and potential customers. When you link from your social channels to each new post, you drive traffic to your site. And even if they come for the curated content, what they get is exposure to your brand. What you get is another chance to make a sale, turn a potential client into an actual client, and solidify relationships with existing customers.

Even if you?re sold on the benefits of content curation for your business, it?s easy to lose your direction when it comes time to implement it.

We?ve identified 12 steps that will keep you on track with best practices and practical advice for implementing curation in your business. ??Let?s take a look at the first 2.

1. Define Your Brand

Branding is the reduction of purchase risk. When a potential customer for your product or service can choose between a known entity and an unfamiliar brand, the customer is likely to take the safe bet??go with what you know,? right? Which means you have to get known. And not just known, but trusted.

Use your social channels, and the content that populates them, to clearly define what you do. This allows you to reduce the perceived risk associated with purchasing your product. You become a known quantity through your social media identity before you?ve even made a sale or sealed a deal with a potential customer.

Content marketing allows you to interact with and prove yourself to potential customers. If they discover a brand they deem trustworthy or that aligns with their values, they share that information with others in their social networks. Visibility legitimizes your brand.

Your social presence also provides a sense of transparency. Through blog posts, tweets, and Facebook updates, your customers can see the real people behind the brand, instead of a faceless corporate ?identity? pushing a standard marketing message. If you commit to maintaining a responsive social presence?for instance, by cultivating a lively and interactive comments community?they can even interact with you and with other customers. Transparency breeds trust, and further strengthens relationships with customers who feel they know what you?re about.

Today?s brand managers must be outstanding curators of brand values and identity. Every interaction is an opportunity to define your brand. A focused, savvy social web presence creates these opportunities on a scale that?s not possible any other way.

2. Build a Team

When you get serious about content curation, ideally you?ll need to create a team to oversee your efforts. As you build the team, think about the qualities that make a great curator. You want people who are:

  • Knowledgeable about your market and your target audience
  • Confident in their judgment, taste, and intuition
  • Discerning, with high quality standards
  • Intellectually curious
  • Able to spot?and shape?trends

If you don?t have the resources to dedicate a team to content marketing and curation, you can still use these qualities to assess whose skill set is the best match for the job. Although a team approach allows you to spread the workload and cull the most suitable personnel for the job, just one person with the interest, motivation, and drive can get the job done just as well, and gives you greater flexibility than a team approach.

The team?s first task should be to build a document that details your policy guidelines. If you haven?t already, you and your team must define your focus in terms of curation. Keep it narrow and specific. Consider both your company?s goals and what will interest your customers, find the intersection, and plant your flag there. State your focus clearly in your guidelines, so everyone?s on the same page.

Meet every two weeks to discuss recent posts and their strengths and weaknesses. Discuss relevant trends you?d like to focus on. Examine data to learn what?s generating strong responses and what?s getting ignored. Ongoing analysis of results will help you continually sharpen your focus and pinpoint what resonates with your target audience. Be flexible and able to respond quickly. Don?t let your audience drift away while you?re debating strategy.

Social channels provide instant feedback from users, whether in the form of retweets or other sharing, or directly as comments, replies to tweets, and posts to your Facebook page. Take advantage of this to gauge your efforts, and fine-tune as needed.

And There?s More

Brand visibility, thought leadership and deeper audience engagement are all the result of content curation done right. Companies across all industries need to put a concerted effort into finding and sharing relevant, credible content and posting it to their website and social channels. By using technology such as content marketing platforms, companies are experiencing tangible results including increased brand awareness and improved sales.

Have time to read more?? See all 12 steps here, or dig into best practices for content curation. ?And, if you have any further insights on the above, please share here!

RI gov: Urgent need to act on economic development

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) ? Rhode Island's leaders say they're eager to make the state friendlier to businesses following an outside group's report calling for sweeping changes to the state's economic development efforts. But they concede they don't yet have a clear plan for doing so.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee feels "a sense of urgency" to improve the state's business climate, spokeswoman Christine Hunsinger said Wednesday. But she said the independent governor doesn't yet know what changes to the state's Economic Development Corp. he might recommend to the General Assembly.

Legislative leaders sounded a similar note following the release Tuesday of a Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council report that concluded the quasi-public EDC lacks focus, doesn't effectively measure its performance and should be brought under government control.

"We have to move quickly," said Rep. Donna Walsh, D-Charlestown, who is co-chairwoman of a legislative economic development committee. "It seems like we talk a lot. But how much action? We have to get the momentum going on this."

Chafee commissioned the report after the collapse of former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video game company. The company, 38 Studios, was lured from Massachusetts in 2010 after the EDC approved a $75 million loan guarantee, and the state is now likely on the hook for some $100 million related to the deal.

The report calls for a broad overhaul of economic development efforts in the state, including the absorption of the EDC into a new state commerce office. It also recommends that the state mandate a comprehensive economic plan and by January, when the General Assembly convenes, draft a package of legislation designed to improve the business climate.

Lawmakers said it's too soon to say how much of the report they can support, or whether they'll come up with new proposals. Chafee's spokeswoman said the governor hasn't decided whether he might implement some of the report's recommendations through executive orders.

Some lawmakers warned against abrupt changes.

"Obviously changes need to be made, but we didn't get into the 38 Studios debacle overnight and we're not going to get out of it overnight," said Rep. Richard Morrison, D-Bristol. "We need to hear from all points. Change for the sake of change is not the way to go."

Business groups, however, clamor for action. Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, called for a quick response to the RIPEC review, even before January's session. She said economic development can no longer be an "afterthought" in Rhode Island.

"The time for action is now. We don't have time to wait," she said. "We can't wait two years for this to really take hold fully."

EDC board member Karl Wadensten, who himself runs a small business, said there are many competing ideas on economic development, but there is a common theme.

"We're at the bottom of the barrel ? we have to do something different," he said.

"No one has been bold enough yet," Wadensten added, noting that Chafee was "on the fringe" of bold action with his recent order that state agencies speed up their review of existing regulations to determine which ones hurt small business. But he said that is the first step of many.

He also noted that merely "rebranding" the EDC ? which would become the Rhode Island Commerce Corp. under RIPEC's recommendations ? will mean nothing without a cultural shift.

"Rebrand the Tide that doesn't clean your clothes, you're not going to buy Tide again," he said. "If you don't walk the walk and talk the talk, you're done. Rebranding does nothing."

U.S. Appeals Court: Samsung Free To Seek Lifting Of Galaxy Tab 10.1 Sales Injunction

Image (2) apple-samsung-620x253.jpg for post 206796The U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh can decide whether or not to lift the ban on U.S. sales of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch tablet, the court said today, Businessweek reports. That means Koh, who had previously refused to rule on the matter despite Samsung's request, could overturn the ban pending this decision, making Samsung's tablet available once again to consumers.

New to RPG: Come greet me!

Adult content roleplays must be tagged with "adult" and must follow collaboration guidelines.
Be reminded: Adult content is permitted on RolePlayGateway. It must 1) be tagged appropriately, and 2) be collaboratively written so as not to clutter the story. Sexually explicit (kissing, fondling, etc.) interactions must be concluded immediately in the responding author's post and must be separated by at least 5 posts of other non-adult writing. Help keep RolePlayGateway smut-free by working together with your game's players to meet this requirement.

This is the only rule that kind of troubles me. How do you tag something 'appropriately', and will an admin slam the ban hammer down on someone who doesn't comply? "...concluded immediately in the responding author's post..." That doesn't seem to allow for much response. I don't mean to sound like someone who roleplays dirty things all of the time. I really don't do it that often. I prefer action and adventure, huzzah! But, when romance does occur, it's expected to be 'prompt' (for lack of a better word in my brain), yes? That seems restricting, I think. Maybe. I don't really know. -flails-

I knew most of the stuff in the Manual except for the 'Extra Information' section about double-colons and whatnot. That was mind boggling.

I've checked out those two threads and they seem sort of slow. Is that always how it works? :P

Revising your resume? The Editorial Style Guide makes things so ...

Categories: EIA Blogroll

The hardest part about drafting or revising my resume or cover letter always seems to come down to the small details. Do I have an academic advisor or an academic adviser? Am I interested in the nonprofit field or the non-profit field? Did I intern with the US Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education? (Actually, neither, but I would like to! Call me?) I inevitably end up Googling my query and settling for faceless internet advice from someone on Yahoo! Answers named Bart who claims to have done ?research? on the subject.

Boy, I sure do wish I had known that there was an Editorial Style Guide available on the Middlebury website that breaks down all that stuff I?ve Googled! (Wait ? googled?) Have a question about capitalization, abbreviation, foreign expressions or split infinitives? Wondering if it?s sacrilegious to hyphenate ?Middlebury?? (It?s not ? provided it ?improves the spacing of the printed document.?) Good to know, right?

Tigers take care of Royals

By LARRY LAGE

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 11:01 p.m. ET Sept. 26, 2012

DETROIT (AP) - Most of the 32,360 fans at Comerica Park groaned when Jhonny Peralta hit a tailor-made double-play grounder that looked set to end the eighth inning.

Andy Dirks made them cheer.

Jhonny Peralta's grounder brought home the go-ahead run because Dirks' hard slide broke up a potential inning-ending double play in the eighth and the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 Wednesday night.

"I was just trying to break up the double play and try to get a piece of him any way I could to help us score that run," Dirks said. "That's just kind of the way you play baseball."

Detroit wound up alone in first place for the first time since before play on July 24 when the White Sox lost to Cleveland later.

Triple Crown candidate Miguel Cabrera was robbed of a tiebreaking homer in the fifth inning by Alex Gordon's catch above the left-field wall.

Detroit found a way to break through the eighth.

It appeared as if Kansas City was going to keep the score tied when Peralta hit a grounder to third baseman Mike Moustakas. Dirks, though, slid so late and hard that second baseman Irving Falu didn't attempt a throw, allowing pinch-runner Don Kelly to score what he said was most important run of his career.

"Peralta was slow getting out of the box, so that's an easy double play," Moustakas said. "I'm always going to go to second on that play, but Dirks did a heck of a job to break it up."

Dirks was swarmed by teammates in the dugout to celebrate the gritty, clean play he made.

"That's good, old-fashioned baseball," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.

Delmon Young hit an infield single with one out in the eighth off Kelvin Herrera (4-3) and was replaced by Kelly, who stole second base and took third on Dirks' single.

Detroit's Alex Avila hit a two-run homer and Austin Jackson had a solo shot in the fourth inning to tie the game.

Cabrera, who went 0 for 4, started the day with the AL lead in batting average and RBIs and was one homer behind Texas' Josh Hamilton. Baseball hasn't had a player lead a league in all three categories since Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.

Cabrera was close to pulling into at least a temporary tie with Hamilton for homers, but Gordon prevented him from hitting his 43rd homer.

"It was hit so high that I had plenty of time to find the fence and get ready," Gordon said. "I thought I might have to climb the wall or at least jump, but at the end, I just had to put my glove up."

The Tigers have won six of nine games on their final 10-game homestand and 32 of their last 43 games at Comerica Park. They had, however, lost 11 straight one-run games since beating Toronto 3-2 on Aug. 23.

Kansas City has lost four straight - three consecutive against Detroit - after winning four in a row, including two against the White Sox.

"I love my team," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "We've played three games here, and we're 0-3, but we're in these games and we're not far from the point where we are going to be consistently winning these teams.

"No matter what has happened this year, we've gotten knocked down and gotten right back up. These guys fight every day, and they are going to do everything in their power to beat Detroit in these games."

Detroit starter Rick Porcello lasted just four innings, giving up four runs and seven hits.

"His velocity dropped and that was a red flag for me," Leyland said.

Luis Marte got two outs in the fifth and Al Alburquerque gave up only one hit over 2 1-3 innings. Joaquin Benoit (4-3) allowed one hit in the eighth. Jose Valverde closed the game for his 32nd save in 37 chances.

Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings.

Young doubled and Dirks singled to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the second.

Kansas City went ahead 3-1 in the third inning after Falu, David Lough and Billy Butler doubled. Jeff Francoeur's solo homer in the fourth inning gave the Royals a three-run lead.

NOTES: Detroit is sending Doug Fister (10-9) to the mound in its final scheduled home game Thursday afternoon against Kansas City and Luis Mendoza (8-9) before the Tigers close the regular season on the road against Minnesota and the Royals. ... Guthrie was 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA in his previous nine starts all of which were Kansas City wins. ... Porcello, who hadn't pitched since Sept. 16 because a rainout led to his previous scheduled start getting skipped, is 0-6 in his last eight outings. ... Yastrzemski told reporters in Boston on Wednesday that playing meaningful games down the stretch with help Cabrera's attempt to win the Triple Crown. "One thing that's going to help him is he's in a pennant race," Yastrzemski said. ... Falu matched a career high with three hits.

How To Get Business With Internet Marketing | Richard Jablonski ...

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

According to the way things are these days, affiliate promotion is a tried and true strategy to use in marketing. These programs have been used by webmasters to earn money for quite some time. There is a ton of information on affiliate promotion that can be had. From beginner to established affiliate marketer, the tips below will help you to hone and tweak your strategies for even greater success!

Consider peripherals as you place affiliate links throughout your site. You way want to consider a water bottle that has a strap, so they can bring it with them.

TIP! A pay-per-sale program in affiliate marketing should be signed up with some caution. If it works it can mean a lot of extra income for you! Do some research before you choose an affiliate, if you feel like it will work well for you, go with it.

To increase success in your online marketing, you need to rely on both front-end and back-end sales. If a customer has purchased an item because of your work, you should also get commission when they purchase the same item in the future. You can safeguard this potential profit by inspecting back-end commission terms before entering any affiliate partnership and sticking with the companies that are fair about these sales.

Hire an accountant to do your finances. Both flesh-and-blood accountants and software programs can do the job. A basic knowledge of accounting will serve you well and allow you to determine the profitability of your efforts. Get your accounting procedures in place before you open for business; it should be ready to use when you launch.

TIP! When an affiliate is putting new products out it will boost your commissions. If you want to benefit from residual income, find a reputable company that continually releases new products.

To improve as an affiliate marketer, set small goals for each day. You can stay motivated using a method that works best for you!

You should always do your research before you sign up with a company. Be sure you can get it out there without having issues.

TIP! Use screen shots of products and customer reviews to provide a better service for your customers. The more information that you can provide to a potential buyer, the better the chance that they will make the investment in the products that you are selling, and maybe send more business your way.

Not all affiliates have websites of equal quality. Certain ones can be very hard and frustrating to maneuver around. Website owners should not allow poorly designed affiliate sites to deter them from making financial gains. This will drive business and encourage people to buy things from you since it develops trust between you and your customers.

If you utilize banner ads, make one that has a trivia question which can only be answered by visiting your site. A lot of people are trivia buffs and cannot resist. You can also give those who answer the question correctly a discount, which is icing on the cake.

TIP! Find ways to make your affiliate links relevant to your site content. If you only have affiliate links for financial service products on your sports site, no one will click on them.

When backlinking to your site content, be honest about where you are taking your potential customers. A reader that clicks on a link labeled ?HP Tablet PC? will be quite irritated if the link takes him to your page that sells iPads instead. No amount of clever strategies will mask the dishonesty of this mismatch.

If you use pop-up ads on your website, switch and use pop-under ads. Most browsers block the pop-up ads, so your prospects may never see them anyway. Results have shown that pop-unders below the browser are more likely to be read instead of pop-ups.

TIP! Paid advertising can help you make large sums of money from ad programs. Well-placed advertisements will help increase both traffic and sales on your site.

To be a successful, goal minded affiliate marketer you must learn the best practices of affiliate marketing. A common mistake affiliates make is to jump at the first free program they see. There isn?t anything intrinsically wrong with this, but if the method isn?t effective, then the fact that it?s free doesn?t matter.

Advertise in various venues. For example, many customers compare products and prices using online services and are lured by the lowest price. Other customers will respond when you leave brochures and fliers in certain locations. Others might still need a percentage off coupon. The more platforms you advertise across, the more people you will attract.

TIP! Copious communication can protect and strengthen the bond between affiliate partners who find their relationship mutually beneficial. Building relationships through communication is an important part of ensuring continued profitability.

A lot of affiliates will get tasks in their email and then check them. Consider copying major points from your emails and reading them on a document program such as Microsoft Word. This way, you can save time by easily referring to a master document.

You will learn which advertisements are the most effective over time. Some people actually like Flash and Silverlight, while others are of the ?less is more? school of thought when it comes to advertising. You should always consider the type of audience you have when building ads.

TIP! Dip in to secret links. You can put links on your website?s text that will not stand out to your readers.

You should know what kind of incentive you will get with these companies. Are they capable of managing orders created from various sources like the telephone, fax and postal mail? You need to take proactive steps to make sure you are not getting short changed on any of the revenue that can be credited to your web marketing.

Lifetime commissions are quickly becoming a rare commodity in the affiliate marketing world. The rewards can be so great they are worth checking out. Affiliates bay marketers a commission of any sales that the marketers generate for the affiliate. Generally, a commission is paid if a product is bought withing a specific time frame. This is why they are worth finding.

TIP! when you choose an affiliate, you need to know your audience ahead of time. Choose advertising that complements the product or services you are selling.

You can make a lot of money with affiliate marketing. As you would find to be the case with any marketing strategy, doing research before you begin is key to your success

You may not want to sell anything on the net that is already wildly popular. Quality is important, popularity is not always so. On top of that, you run the risk of facing still competition. You might not possibly profit.

TIP! As is the case with any business when you are first starting out, you will need to invest money into the venture to make a profit later on. It is a wise idea to reinvest some of the profits from affiliate marketing into advertising.

Welcome to "Cultured"

Thankyou for viewing my roleplay, and I hope you will consider taking part.
Here feel free to make reservations, ask questions and discuss the roleplay.

Please note, this is a literate, and advanced rp, so I will be rather strict on character profiles. My own characters stand as examples of what I am expecting. Since this is literate (again, pointing this out (: ) roleplay, if you are not willing/prepared to write around 600 words for each of your posts, please don't join.
About the reservations, they last 24hours and people can reserve the same character and compete if needed.

This could be interesting. Inspired by The Island I assume?

Staring real hard at the available slots. Might make a character should inspiration strike.

Haha. I hope you find one you like, I tried to make all the spots as interesting as each other :) I actually haven't heard of that film though I'd assume that since cloning is a rather intriguing and controversial topic many different stories would be made about it.

Oh please, please, please let me reserve The One in Denial! I really want to join this :)

I have this theory that, depending on your attitude,
your life doesn't have to be this ridiculous charade
that it seems so many people end up living.
