The Cleveland Center for Eating Disorders is committed to building awareness around the dangers of eating disorders and educating the community about the importance of early detection and treatment. That?s why you can find us out in the community leading discussions, sponsoring community events, participating in health fairs and more.
Last week, CCED participated in the Girls? Health Fest hosted by the Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights. Thanks to those of you who joined us; it was a great turnout!
The fair, which ran from 8:30 a.m. until noon, was chock-full of free educational health and wellness events for adolescents and their parents.
Liz Ferro, founder of Girls With Sole, a Rocky River-based nonprofit that offers fitness programs for at-risk girls, was the keynote speaker. She spoke about her journey through athletics and encouraged the girls to set their own health-and-fitness goals.
Afterwards, the girls were free to participate in a wide variety of workshops that focused on nutrition, wellness and mental health. For example, there was a Move It! workshop that featured a local fitness instructor who led the group into a dance/exercise routine and another featured University Hospitals? Executive Chef John Selick, who offered tips and ideas for healthy snacks.?
CCED had a booth to educate girls on signs of eating disorders, the importance of early detection and how we support people suffering from this illness. We created an art project for those girls who stopped by. We asked them to fill out our colorful shapes that promoted a strong body image, such as ?One thing I love about my body is?? or ? My emotions help me to ? .? Then, we took their colorful shapes and created art pieces out of them, which now are hanging in our center!
