THERE'S an easy feeling about Wreck & Ruin, the new album from Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson.

It could be the husband-and-wife duo's natural chemistry, their individual talents as songwriters or their wholesome, family approach to life in the music industry - or a combination of all three.

But Nicholson reckons the album, the follow-up to their hugely successful debut collaboration Rattlin' Bones, was just plain easy to write.

"I don't want it to sound flippant, but it quite easy to write," he said.

"It formed itself quite easily. We were just there, like we were hanging around while the songs were being written.

"When I listen to the album it sounds easy."

The album, released today, had its debut at the Gympie Muster.

The couple is currently in the US playing a few showcase gigs before returning to Australia to tour with the album in October and November.

Chambers said it was always "a given" that she and her hubby would write and record more music together.

The tracks The Quiet Life, Troubled Mind and Adam and Eve are some of the couple's personal favourites off the album.

"Adam and Eve definitely takes a very old traditional type story and puts a modern twist on it, which is I guess what the album is generally," Chambers said.

"We talked about how that would be a good concept for a song, being that we're husband and wife and can play the parts as actors."

Fast-paced bluegrass song Sick as a Dog, meanwhile, has more literal roots.

"While we were trying to write we were all sick," Nicholson said.

"The whole family was wiped out with the flu. We were inspired to write nothing except how sick we felt."

Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson's Wreck & Ruin Tour plays Toowoomba's Empire Theatre on November 16, Bundaberg's Moncrieff Theatre on November 17 and the Sirromet Winery at Mt Cotton on November 18.
